PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Ph.D in Management at Kings University College is a full-time, research-based doctoral programme designed for professionals, academics and researchers seeking to develop advanced research capability and contribute original knowledge to contemporary management practice.

Through the AsiaEurope™ Doctorate pathway, the Ph.D journey is complemented by a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) pathway from Euro American Institute (EAI), Malta, creating a distinctive combination of an academic doctorate from Asia and an applied professional doctorate from Europe.

Candidates progress through Advanced Research Methodology, research proposal development and defence, ongoing thesis supervision, independent doctoral research, publication requirements, Pre-Viva examination and Final Viva Voce. The expected full-time study period is approximately three to five years.

Research may be undertaken across a broad range of management disciplines, including strategy, leadership, human resources, finance, entrepreneurship, educational management, sustainability, digital transformation, AI, project management and operations.

Through Asia Campus, candidates also receive supplementary research, academic and student support powered by SIMI Swiss alongside the formal academic supervision and doctoral requirements of Kings University College.

ASIAEUROPE™ DUAL DOCTORATE PATHWAY

The AsiaEurope™ Doctorate combines the Ph.D in Management from Kings University College, Malaysia, with an additional Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) pathway from Euro American Institute (EAI), Malta.

It brings together an academic research doctorate in Asia and an applied professional doctorate in Europe, creating a distinctive pathway for candidates seeking both research depth and professional relevance. Each qualification remains subject to the academic and award requirements of the respective awarding institution.

FULL-TIME STUDY & STUDENT VISA

The Ph.D in Management is undertaken through full-time study in Malaysia, with eligible international candidates applying for a Student Pass through the applicable Malaysian student visa process.

Candidates study as full-time international students at Kings University College in Kuala Lumpur and are subject to the academic, immigration and Student Pass requirements applicable throughout their study period.

RESEARCH JOURNEY & PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme follows a research-based doctoral structure beginning with Advanced Research Methodology, followed by Research Proposal Development and Defence, ongoing thesis supervision and independent doctoral research.

Candidates progressively develop, conduct and document an original research project before proceeding through Pre-Viva Examination and the final Viva Voce. The expected full-time completion period is approximately 3 to 5 years, subject to academic progress and university requirements.

THESIS, PUBLICATION & GRADUATION

The doctoral thesis is the central component of the programme and must demonstrate independent research with an original academic or practical contribution to the field of management.

Candidates are also required to meet the programme’s publication requirements, including one publication before the data-collection and proposal-defence stage and another before the Pre-Viva, followed by successful completion of the Pre-Viva and Final Viva Voce.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised Master’s degree in management, business, economics, finance, education, human resources, technology, leadership or another relevant field.

Applicants should also demonstrate appropriate research capability and an initial research direction suitable for doctoral-level investigation. Admission remains subject to academic review, research-topic suitability and the availability of appropriate supervision.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

International applicants may demonstrate English proficiency through recognised qualifications including IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, Pearson Test of English 59 or Cambridge English 169.

Relevant exemptions may apply to candidates whose previous qualifications were substantially taught in English, subject to documentary evidence and university approval. Where permitted, candidates without the required English certificate may be given additional time to fulfil the requirement.

RESEARCH AREAS

Candidates may pursue doctoral research across a broad range of contemporary management fields, including Strategic Management, Human Resource Management, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Governance, Educational Management, Sustainability and ESG, Digital Transformation and AI, Project Management and Operations Management.

Research topics are developed in relation to the candidate’s academic background, professional experience, research interests and the availability of suitable supervision.
