PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Ph.D in Nursing at Kings University College is a full-time, research-based doctoral programme designed for experienced nursing professionals, educators, healthcare leaders and researchers seeking to advance nursing knowledge and contribute original research to contemporary healthcare practice.

Through the AsiaEurope™ Doctorate pathway, the Ph.D journey is complemented by an additional Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Healthcare Management pathway, creating a distinctive combination of advanced nursing research and applied healthcare leadership.

Candidates progress through research methodology, proposal development and defence, ongoing thesis supervision, independent doctoral research, publication requirements and final Viva Voce. Research may address clinical nursing, nursing education, nursing management and leadership, intensive care, community and public health, healthcare policy and other relevant nursing specialties.

Through Asia Campus, candidates also receive supplementary research, academic and student support powered by SIMI Swiss alongside the formal academic supervision and doctoral requirements of Kings University College.

ASIAEUROPE™ DUAL DOCTORATE PATHWAY

The AsiaEurope™ Doctorate combines the Ph.D in Nursing from Kings University College, Malaysia, with an additional Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Healthcare Management pathway from Euro American Institute (EAI), Malta.

This creates a distinctive combination of advanced nursing research and applied healthcare management, supporting candidates who wish to strengthen both their academic contribution to nursing and their leadership capability within healthcare organisations.

FULL-TIME STUDY & STUDENT VISA

The Ph.D in Nursing is undertaken through full-time study in Malaysia, with eligible international candidates applying for a Student Pass through the applicable Malaysian student visa process.

Full-time candidates study at Kings University College in Kuala Lumpur and remain subject to the academic, immigration and Student Pass requirements applicable throughout their study period.

RESEARCH JOURNEY & PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme follows a research-focused doctoral structure beginning with Research Methodology, followed by Research Proposal Development and Defence, ongoing thesis supervision and independent doctoral research.

Candidates develop and complete an original nursing dissertation under supervision before progressing to the Final Viva Voce. Kings publishes a full-time programme duration of 3 years, subject to academic progress and university requirements.

THESIS, PUBLICATION & GRADUATION

The doctoral dissertation is the central component of the programme and must demonstrate original research that contributes to nursing knowledge, professional practice or healthcare outcomes.

Candidates are also required to complete two publications and successfully complete the Final Viva Voce as part of the programme requirements.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are normally expected to hold an appropriate Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Nursing or a closely related healthcare discipline, together with an academic and professional background suitable for doctoral-level research.

Admission remains subject to academic review, research-topic suitability and the availability of appropriate supervision.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

International applicants are required to demonstrate an appropriate level of English proficiency in accordance with the university’s admission requirements.

Relevant exemptions or alternative evidence may apply where previous qualifications were substantially taught in English, subject to documentary evidence and university approval.

RESEARCH AREAS

Candidates may pursue research across a broad range of nursing and healthcare fields, including Clinical Nursing Research, Nursing Education, Curriculum Development, Nursing Management & Leadership, Intensive Care Nursing, Community and Public Health, Healthcare Policy and other related nursing specialties.

Research topics are developed according to the candidate’s academic background, clinical or professional experience, research interests and the availability of suitable supervision.
